Kelton Avenue was formed in
November/December of
1992 by Adam Prince, Leonard Kim and Rob Pierce. Drummer Ron Perrone joined the
group in early 1993. Their first gig was in a friend's basement during a new
year's eve party, 1992. The next few years found them playing mostly clubs and
coffee shops in the Tacoma area.
Sadly, in August of 1993, Leonard was lost in a fatal accident. That summer, Brad Birkedahl stepped in as lead guitarist and Joe Fick joined on bass a short while later. The band enjoyed making recordings, both in the garage and in the studio. They rehearsed and recorded far more often than they performed...no more than 15-20 shows were played from 1993 to 1996.
The band wrote dark moody songs, supported by McCartney-ish bass playing and jangly guitars. Kelton Avenue's music didn't mix well with the grunge and punk of the early to mid nineties; ironically the band broke up at the time when similar groups were gaining national attention.
Kelton Avenue received favorable reviews in local Seattle music papers such as The Rocket, and had a few songs on local college radio.
The band made their last studio recording in the summer of 1996. Ron, Brad and Joe moved to Memphis and are currently playing rockabilly as The Dempseys. Since 2000 Adam has been performing with the Tacoma group, Left of the Dial, and continues to write, record and perform his own music.
